At Summertree, we are also able to assist with the specific nutritional needs of birds and other exotics kept as companion pets. Comprehensive pet care for every species includes a high quality nutritional plan.
Proper nutrition plays an essential role in the health, happiness, and longevity of every pet. An appropriate high-quality diet can help prevent disease and strengthen the immune system to respond to illness and injury.
The nutritional needs of every pet are unique, depending upon species, age, size, physical activity, and other environmental influences. We create a nutrition plan for your pet that optimizes health and enhances vigor.
Pet Nutrition for Your Dog & Cat
Our veterinarians recommend feeding Royal Canin Veterinary Diets for the health and well-being of our canine and feline companions. Find out more about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets.
During 36 years as an active avian practitioner and international speaker, Dr. Greg J. Harrison sought to reduce the use of drugs in his patients by enhancing the bird’s own immune system. Along the way, he developed a practical well-bird philosophy, which translated into the creative use of unique quality remedies that really worked to boost the health of his patients.
We are proud to make these remedies available to our patients through the HEALx product line.
There are several products available through Summertree Animal & Bird Clinic. We encourage you to ask about them at your next avian exam!
Our veterinarians encourage one-on-one nutritional consultations for all bird owners. Each bird is different, and we help create a dietary plan to enhance all areas of your bird’s life.
Generally, a pelleted diet should make up 50–80% of your bird’s diet. We recommend Harrison’s Bird diet, formulated to meet the nutritional needs for most parrot species.
Birds benefit nutritionally and psychologically from variety! We also recommend feeding them 20–30% healthy table foods, focusing on dark green, red, and orange vegetables. Less than 10% of your bird’s diet should be seeds or nuts.
Cockatiels, budgerigars, and lories/lorikeets have different nutritional needs. We recommend feeding cockatiels and budgies a diet consisting of 50% pellets, 30% quality seed mix, and 20% veggies/healthy table foods. Lories and lorikeets also require a liquid nectar and additional fruit supplementation.
