Dr. Joanna is a diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM).
Her passions? Cultivate community, serve people, and steward creation. As a Board Certified Specialist in Zoological Medicine™, Dr. Joanna desires to partner with the community and veterinarians to educate, empower, and elevate care for zoo and zoo companion species. Animal health and welfare for domestic and non-domestic species is a collaborative effort, no matter if it is occurring inside your house, outside in your pond, or at a conservation facility. Whether your family member is an invertebrate, fish, amphibian, reptile, bird, or mammal, she looks forward to joining your pet’s care team.
Dr. Joanna is a native of McKinney, TX. After graduating from SMU, she attended vet school at Tufts University in Massachusetts. She then completed two specialty internships and a three year residency in zoo companion (avian/exotics), zoo, aquatic, and wildlife medicine. After her residency at the University of Illinois, Dr. Joanna designed and implemented a zoological medicine and surgery department at a specialty hospital before transitioning to a managerial role at Brookfield Zoo Chicago and per diem general practice. At Brookfield, she coordinated and executed the Zoo and Aquarium Radiology Database - an innovative, collaborative, and centralized online database created as a reference tool for the zoological community.
Dr. Joanna is excited to switch her focus back to clinical medicine not only for non-traditional species, but also dogs and cats!
